Africans have been migrating through out the continent, which includes Nigeria, a long time before there was actually written record. Because of this, there's always been a comprehensive amount of inter-mingling among various ethnic groups, making it difficult to actually trace back again who originated from where. Aside from this amalgamation, there has been a huge impact on the peoples of Nigeria by exterior forces. Particularly, three significant groups that had a major impact had been Muslim retailers from throughout the Sahara, English slave dealers and later colonizers, plus the French and British Christian missionaries. The combination of these kinds of three organizations has had the two an economic and cultural effect on Nigeria that is still present today. External penetration of Nigeria started out as early as the 9th 100 years AD the moment Muslim stores from american Sudan, Maghreb, Tripolitania and Egypt began traveling throughout the Sahara with camel caravans in search of control. Over the course of the next six generations, Islam started to be accepted widely in the north, especially among the Hausa and Fulani, and not only as a faith. It also enforced a central government, segregated the genders, influenced terminology and program, and established a hierarchical class program that had not been there beforehand. Islam would not spread south because of the heavy tropical forest that splits Nigeria in north and south. This also caused the two regions to " develop" at different costs because as the south was still alien to Europeans, the north was expanding widely and economically because of its deep involvement with the trans-Sahara trade routes. The peoples in the south remained untouched by Europeans until the 1470's when ever Portuguese explorers, under the inspiration and assistance of Henry the Navigator, arrived and traded mood, cloth, pistols and nitroglycerine nitroc for slaves. The Costa da prata did not genuinely have much of a ethnical effect on the indigenous people (besides the slowly diminishing population)....
