Kaizen in Formula One? Essay

KAIZEN in Method One?

Situation:

Toyota is the largest carmaker in the world. On April 2007 it went ahead of the US big automaker GENERAL MOTORS for the first time. Therefore , what is the challenge then? Seeing that Toyota joined the Formula One in 2002 it has by no means won a race or perhaps ended a season in better than next place. Toyota F1 group is a best spender with this industry, with around $500m a year, but cannot overcome Ferrari and McLaren. Thus giving hard time to Toyota's chiefs, who do not know the situation of not meeting goals. The importance to be a winning team in F1 cannot be over rate. Since Ferrari won their consecutive five F1 competition in the years 2000- 2005, its commercial cars product sales have enhanced massively. Accomplishment in F1 allows you to apply the newest technology in your industrial cars and also benefit from substantial popularity and exposure inside the races.

Still, several voices in Toyota have become seriously arguing that the Toyota F1 staff should go back to the original Toyota way, and adopt precisely the same principles which may have made Toyota what it is. In back of the success of F1 teams there is always one extremely dominant figure that runs the present and makes difficult calls: Jean Todd in Ferrari, Ron Dennis in McLaren, and Flavio Briatore in Renault. In Toyota, by comparison, teamwork is still a key element, as explains Toyota F1 team manager, Mr. Yamashina: " We encourage team-work and we have always our thoughts set on kaizen". Open interaction,...
