Earlier this spring, Showmanship released the quite questionable adaptation of F. Jeff Fitzgerald's wonderful American new, The Great Gatsby. The film is described by Baz Luhrman, reputed for his expensive, visual design, with non-e other than popular Leonardo DiCaprio as title character, Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as narrator Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan is usually cast as Daisy Buchanan. Set during the summer of 1922 in Long Island, New York, Nick gets caught up in the wonderful world of millionaire neighbors, Jay Gatsby, who throws fabulous get-togethers each weekend to capture the attention of his first love, the old-moneyed, married Daisy, who actually is Nick's cousin. Throughout the history, the character types are confronted with discovery, unfaithfulness, and disaster, in the two novel and film. Of course , Luhrman's version is just that, and because the novel is indeed widely thought of as un-adaptable, the director provides undergone heavy criticism. Around the film, certain approaches Luhrman adopts, as well as aspects he omits from the plotline, either develop or reduce viewers' understanding of Fitzgerald's operate, or affect the story in general.
